How can hydrotherapy help me?

Hydrotherapy is probably a term you’ve heard about, but have you ever thought about how it can help you? Hydrotherapy is exercise completed in the comfort of a heated pool, usually under the guidance of an allied health professional, such as an Exercise Physiologist. Often it is overlooked despite the abundance of therapeutic benefits it offers.

Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for various types of injuries and chronic conditions, as the warmth of the water helps to relax muscles, resulting in decreased pain and swelling. Other benefits include increased cardiovascular fitness, improved mood, and weight loss over time. The reduced effects of gravity combined with the buoyancy of the water also make it easier to stand in the water and reduce pressure on joints. This can be especially beneficial for clients who are at risk of a fall and/or find it difficult to exercise on land due to pain or reduced mobility.

Common conditions and injuries managed with hydrotherapy treatment include:

- Lower back pain

- Falls prevention

- Arthritis

- Post-surgery rehabilitation

- Pre-surgery prehabilitation

- Obesity

And that’s just to name a few! A consultation with an exercise physiologist at Embrace will allow you to discuss your goals and current health status to determine if hydrotherapy is suitable for you. An individualised program tailored to your specific condition and fitness level will then be developed as your hydrotherapy sessions commence.

So, what are you waiting for? There has never been a better time to get your swimmers out of the closet and start hydrotherapy with an Exercise Physiologist!
